Salford's best Christmas Lights
by Tom Rodgers
After David Brierley's outstanding show last year (see link), we thought we'd broaden the search to find the best Christmas lights in Salford.
Three nominees for you this year, one in Pendleton, one in Winton, and another in Walkden.
Enjoy these lights, from the outlandish to the absurd!
Firstly, two very laid-back gentlemen who declined to give their names in Trenam Place, M5.
Secondly, Mrs Sheila Vale of Verdun Road in Winton. (not Westwood Crescent as shown in the video)
Last but not least, a very enthusiastic John and Gladys Croft on Westminster Road in Walkden.
John said: "We do it for the kids, we get lots of little old ladies knocking on to say 'Will the lights be on, my grandkids are coming this week!'".
"It's not a competition to us," he said, "we just do it to brighten up the street."
Gladys said: "We've had a couple of pieces stolen recently, just by bored teenagers, you know, but I don't mind, we only do it for the kids anyway."
John added: "We've got other bits and pieces, like a 6ft Santa and a 5ft reindeer, but we can't fit them in the garden. I did see an eight-metre (32ft) Father Christmas in a wholesalers, but she [his wife] wouldn't let me buy it!"
Other nominations are welcome - if you know of bigger, better Christmas lights than we've shown on this video just leave a comment or email us at newsdesk@salfordonline.com
Music 'In the Bleak Mid-winter' provided by Salford University's Adelphi Brass Band.
